Dear Students,

I want to extend a warm welcome to all existing and potential students. I hope that 2010 will be a rewarding and successful academic year. Last year was another special and historical time for the Altech Academy as the first group of students graduated with the Academy. I am personally proud this year and excited to see the number of potential students reaching 300 as this means that employees are starting to see the value in attending the programmes.

By the end of 2009 we had 249 students registered with the Altech Academy. As I reflect on 2009, here were some of the highlights; Altech Academy programmes were registered as learnerships by ISETT Seta and Department of Labour, and this was a first for the industry. The second Student of the Year Presentations and Awards Evening took place with 8 top students and two teams making presentations. We offered bursaries to six full-time University students, and Altech now having 23 full-time Univeresity students.

I can hardly believe that the Altech Academy started with its third intake of students. Interested students must speak to their respective HR or Training Managers or visit your Altech Academy website when registering for one of our programmes. I encourage and invite you to send your suggestions to suggestions@altech.co.za.

Remember, you are not alone during your programme modules as you have the support of both your management teams and lecturers who will ensure that your study experience is both pleasant and rewarding. Lest you forget, you also have the support of one another. I have no doubt that you have received and will continue to receive the highest standards of education specific to our industry and will ultimately achieve the greatest results that I know each and everyone of you is most capable of.

Good luck to all students for the academic year ahead!
